I Need To Have An Ugly Cry

I need to have an ugly cry

Then I will be just fine,

But I can’t cry,

My mascara will run;

It’s not waterproof mascara.

Like dark clouds before a thunderstorm,

No water sprinklers for me.

False eyelashes sliding down my face,

No thanks.

I’ll keep it all inside.

I need to have an ugly cry.

I need to have an ugly cry.

I can’t cry,

My mascara will run;

It’s not waterproof mascara.

Tears can’t wash the heartache away,

So I won’t even bother….

No windshield wipers for my eyes,

Although my heart explodes inside

There’s nothing for you to see.

Train tracks running down my face.... (Oh, no)

You won’t make me a clown.

You can run,

But I’ll stand still.

No raccoon eyes for me.

I need to have an ugly cry.

I need to have an ugly cry.

I can’t cry,

My mascara will run.

It’s not waterproof mascara.

About Gael

Dr. Gael B. Hogan is a writer, artist, speaker and teacher. She is known for her refreshing transparency and expressive personality as she shares the journey of faith and God’s love for His people. Her heart’s desire is for people to know how truly real God is and to see lives healed and changed through an intimate relationship with Christ.  One aspect of her ministry is to see people fulfill their potential and to walk in the path and destiny God has created specifically for them.

Born and raised in the Spring-Ford area near Valley Forge, PA, Gael graduated from Cameron University with a B.A. in English, received her Master’s Degree in Humanities from the University of Oklahoma, and continued her education with a Ph.D. in Religion from Christian Bible College.

Gael’s first book, “Would You Do It For Me?”  is about living your faith honestly with a living God. As a fingerpainter, her art expresses the simplicity of childlike faith and joy. Locally, she is an ambassador for the Senior Games/Silver Arts of Lee County, and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. Gael was also the ambassador of the Sanford Brush & Palette Art Club as well as past president. She started the local pickleball program and was a former USAPA ambassador. But her greatest accomplishment and her greatest joy is being a wife, mother of six, mother-in-law to three, grandmother of fourteen, and spiritual mother to many. She and her husband, Mike, are senior ordained chaplains with International Fellowship of Chaplains and live in Sanford, N.C.
